Even though it’s not really that old (compared to other genres, that is), the MMO genre has already experienced a much storied history. Offering some of the most compelling gameplay experiences available, MMO games have been widely embraced by gamers from all walks, from casual players to the hardest of the hardcore. Here’s a look at some of my favorites over the years:

1. World of Warcraft
2. EverQuest
3. Ultima Online
4. Guild Wars
5. EverQuest 2
6. The Lord of the Rings Online
7. Motor City Online
8. Dark Age of Camelot
9. EVE Online
10. Planetside

If you would like to see Hop's comments on each game go to: http://www.gamezone.com/top10/MMO.htm

What are your favorite MMOs?

one of the most accurate lists ever.

I am in the (sad) position to have tried ALL of the above games either in Beta or in the retail form and i must admit these are the 10 most influential MMOs with the exception of the Motor City Online perhaps. The idea behind the game is awesome , the implementation was ok, but it was ruined by bug exploiters.

As far as the rest IMO the king was is and will be for the forseeable future EQ. Not as far as number of players but as far as content and fun/lasting factor. Only problem being you need two lives to afford playing it...
