Let’s be honest.  The PS3 is the best console out right now.  Isn’t it?  Let the hate mail begin.  It is the best machine because it has more features and value for the money.  There is no debate.  Is there?  Before I continue, let me say that I own a 360.  I love it.  Technically I own two in fact due to the hated Red Ring of Death.

Over the holidays I saw the red ring on three separate occasions.  They were demo models to be fair.  The floor consoles in the electronics department.  Three stores, three consoles all with the same flashing red death.  None of that mattered though.  The 360 sold well.  Microsoft made sure to push the arcade model and the ad campaign met with success.  And to their credit, Microsoft has made good on the warranty to cover faulty hardware.

What is really the better buy for value though?  Let’s break this down further.

Is the PS3 better?  No.  Is the Xbox 360 better?  No.  Is the Wii better?  No!  But they each have their own strengths that the other console doesn't offer.  The PS3 offers Blu-Ray which is primarily the only feature I use on the PS3 right now.  The Xbox 360 offers an almost seemless online experience between playing games with others and purchasing games.  The Wii is the consumer's choice right now because of the fascination with the Motion Sensing controls.  Put them all together and you get one happy gamer!

I agree, that article wasn't true, and I dont really care for it. PS3 is not the best, yet neither is the Wii or 360.  For online gaming and shooters: 360 For friends and fun controls: Wii  For watching movies: PS3   (because it is blu-ray, I know netflix is awesome...)

All 3 machines are good in their own way.

In a perfect world where everyone can buy every console I would agree.  Each current gen console has a unique feature.  Each one has a strong point and several flaws.

However, if a gamer is only going to pick up one console I think the article makes a strong argument.  The PS3 offers features right out of the box that the others do not.  The best bang for the buck.  That was the main point.

I would agree that the 360 has a strong online feature set, but don't forget that you have to pay for it.  The PS3 has online gaming and movie downloads as well, and the gaming service is free.  The 360 is a good console for multiplayer shooters,  but Resistance 2, and Killzone have excellent online multiplayer options as well.  For free.

And what about the 360 2 week lockout for new demos unless you are a gold subscriber.  I can't tell you how many times I've just downloaded the demo on the PS3 the night it was available to bypass the 360 gold member lockout.

The Wii is unique, and an entirely different experience.  However, there aren't a whole lot of titles for the hard core gamer.

If everyone could experience the best of each console that would be great.  Sometimes that's not possible.

I agree with most of what was said in the article, expect the bit about Achievements being better than Trophies.  Few seem to agree with me, but I simply prefer percent completion to a number that refuses to conform to any kind of standard.  Look at your Achievement list and your Trophy list (if you have both systems, obviously).  Which looks better, a column of 100% listings or one with 200, 250, 1000, 1250, and even 1500 point listings?  Look at your Gamercard and PSN ID.  Which looks cleaner, level 8 with 85% experience or 18043 points?

I know that's really a small point, but it bothers me.  I prefer the PS3 because it runs quieter and is less prone to breaking down, it has built-in features that Microsoft overcharges for assuming they're available ($100 for Wi-Fi! Angry), and the ability to swap out your hard drive cheap (you can get 500 gigs for PS3 for $110, or 120 gigs for Xbox 360 for $150...PS3 wins that one! Grin)

That's not to say I don't like my 360, but more an in-depth explanation of my preference, particularly regarding multi-system games.  I have all three systems and enjoy each for its own strengths (as has been said here already), but in PS3 vs. 360 debates, I have to go with PS3 every time (which is funny, because I actually bought a 360 over a year before my PS3).
