When the gears are moving and the hype-machine is in full force, there are some games out there that look like they will be unstoppable. Be it through word of mouth, press coverage, or plain old hyperbolic marketing, some games just get hyped up to an unattainable level, a move even more disappointing when the games can’t hit the high mark, be they not quite great enough or sometimes just plain bad. Here’s a list of some games that didn’t live up to the hype:

1. Daikatana
2. Lair
3. Fable
4. Hellgate: London
5. Haze
6. Too Human
7. Alone in the Dark
8. Red Steel
9. Enter the Matrix
10. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

What games do you think didn't live up to the hype?

Daikatana was doomed almost from the beginning.  Took way too long for it to finally come out.  Hopefully Duke Nukem doesn't have the same fate.  Red Steel I think was a victim of too much initial press for a first generation game.  We wanted the game to be so much more than what it ended up being.

I'd agree with you on Duke Nukem Forever (pretty ironic title when you think about it, since that's how long it's been in development), but considering that they've been working on it a lot more fervently recently than they have in the past, it could shock us all...

I hope it shocks us all but in a good way.  Not in a car crash way of "man that was really awful."
