While staunch critics of the video game industry are quick to shortchange the medium as having no artistic merit, there are some games that few could argue do not push the boundaries between art and video games. These games do an amazing job of providing a compelling sense of atmosphere and truly putting you into their world like few games can. Here’s a look at some of the best games when it comes to artistic direction:

1. Shadow of the Colossus
2. Okami
3. BioShock
4. Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
5. Prince of Persia
6. Rez
7. Ico
8. No More Heroes
9. Jet Set Radio Future
10.Killer 7

I agree with almost everything on the list, except for Bioshock.  When I first started playing it I was impressed with the visuals but after going back several months later my opinion changed.  For some reason the wow factor just wasn't there anymore.  I don't know if that was because I went from playing the game on a 27" TV to a 40" TV and I was expecting much more.

One you could add are the Metal Slug games.  Those games have always looked great with a cartoon style look to them and a wicked sense humor in the animations.

But one that I'm glad to see on the list is Wind Waker.  That game received way too much crap when it was first annouced because of the visuals.  Here we are years later and the game still looks amazing today.

I agree ^
Bioshock was cool, visuals were cool, but nothing up to Wind Waker and Okami.

I also dont agree much with shadow the collosus, (sorry for the spelling, lol) it looked good, and the monsters looked good, but not #1 good.

I'm also really glad wind waker was up there, amazing game, looked amazing.
