Hey everyone,

There's been a big to-do about this recently with the whole Mass Effect thing back in January and the Hot Coffee scandal a few years ago. Check out my editorial, and let me know what you guys think Smiley

I remember at E3 a couple years ago covering the new Playboy game.  I kept thinking to myself that I couldn't believe this game was actually being developed.  Yet here we are several years later and just how far have we grown as an industry regarding adult material in gaming?  Sure violence has grown but the industry "almost" makes it perfectly clear that adult sexual content has no place in a game.  The ESRB will automatically rate a game with such content as AO which means no big market retailer will carry the game for sale.  However gamers are not given the choice to play a game with this type of content simply because no one will develop or even release it for a major console.  As the age of the average gamer increases just how far can we go with violence and adult content.  It's ok to go see a movie with explicit scenes in the theater if you're over 18 but you don't have that choice in gaming.  Is it really an unintentional censorship enforcing gaming that doesn't exist in other forms of entertainment?

It's not that there isn't a market for AO video games it's the fact that you need both hands to play the games..   Grin lol

I think the ESRB should re-evaluate the system.  I mean, what does Mature even mean anymore?  Shouldn't people who are "mature" be able to see violent or sexual content?  Even the sexual content in these games was more implied than anything, scenes you could defiantly watch in a PG-13 movie.  I saw "Don't Mess with the Zohan" with my two nieces and watching Adam Sandler screw old women was pretty uncomfortable to watch with them.  If they can see that and no one gives a darn about the PG-13 label than why should video-games have to abide by this double standard?

True but I think the console makers want to stay as far away from mature content as possible.  It's ok for them to let you download a movie to your PS3 or Xbox 360 that is unrated with all sorts of mature content.  But as soon as a game tries to duplicate the same content it's pushed to the basement never to be seen again.

I think its edgy to have sexual content in the games. Had it been 10 years ago then it wouldn't have been acceptable but nowadays its sells.

I think it is a joke that sex is more controversial than violence.

Imagine a world where violence is taught to be repressed and sexuality is embraced and accepted.  Crazy thought: sex makes life, violence takes it, yet we are more comfortable with junior playing war games than "sex" games...

We should reevaluate these conventions from time to time because they are getting pretty absurd.
